We offer coaching for student success, self-discovery (i.e. values, goals, and majors) and making the most of high school opportunities. While the junior year is the ideal time to start planning, and preparing for college applications, plenty of students begin this process as seniors.

After helping you create your smart fit college list, we’ll help you stay ahead of the multiple deadlines — from test prep, applications and essays, to college fairs, visits and interviews, as well as scholarship applications.

Our coaches provide individualized coaching to assist and navigate you smoothly throughout each step of the journey, toward your goals, to launch your phase2 successfully.

Pre-College/Career Coaching

For most students, choosing a major and career can be overwhelming. Having two or three possible majors/careers in mind is ideal when creating a college list. This will help you hit the ground running. Declaring a major(s) earlier also helps you graduate within four years (only 39% do so, according to the NCES). We systematically help you on your quest, starting with self-discovery to define your values, goals, personality type, learning styles, and strengths and weaknesses. Then we’ll guide you to find out what it takes to be successful. We’ll also look at the outlook of the field, and help you set up and conduct informational interviews or job shadowing. Our coaching provides you with the tools to investigate and choose your major and career options.

Creating a well-thought out college list is one of the most important and complex steps in the college admissions process. According to a 2010 report by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, nearly one in three students transfer. Transfers are costly in terms of credits and time lost, not to mention having to start over socially and readjust to college life. Therefore, it is critical to create a personalized smart fit college list so that you will be excited about every school. Creating the list begins with self-discovery–then we help you choose possible majors and careers.  Next, our coaches help you find your smart-fit college criteria through assessments and discussions. Finally, all of these filters and criteria are used to produce a complete list of schools that fall within three categories: reach (hard to get into), target, and likely schools (where acceptance and scholarships are likely). We help you greatly decrease your chances of being part of the transfer student statistics, while increasing the likelihood of attending a school where you can have a positive college and educational experience.

We will also give you feedback on how to improve your interview responses, including the importance of body language. You will learn how to sell yourself by providing specific examples, and by putting yourself in the interviewer’s shoes. Your personal statement and college essays are extremely important components of your application, along with yourcollege list. Essays often replace personal interviews, which frequently are not possible due to the high numbers of college applicants. Your essay allows the admissions officer a chance to get to know you through your written voice. Your essay is your opportunity to share who you are, while making a favorable and unique impression. Our coaches will help you brainstorm topics and approaches to help you get started; later, we offer a second set of expert eyes for writing that is flawless, and memorably expressive.

Whether you are already accepted to a college or currently attending college, taking a break from your academics can make sense. Gap years or semester programs provide students time to figure out or test majors/careers, and a chance to broaden skills, while completing service learning  projects. College admissions can usually be deferred as admissions officers and employers alike look favorably upon meaningful service learning work. There are numerous domestic and international programs, with varying costs and competitiveness. We also help you create your own gap opportunities. Find out if a gap program makes sense for you.
